Hollywood Fringe Festival: Valentino

June 17, 2010

Hey everybody

Hollywood is hosting their own Fringe Festival, starting Thursday, June 17 and ending Sunday, June 27. “What is a Fringe Festival?” you may ask. According to the Hollywood Fringe Festival’s website, “The Hollywood Fringe Festival is an annual celebration of the emerging arts. Environments for the Fringe include both traditional and unorthodox venues; fully equipped theatres, street corners, clubs, bars, and places unexpected. Performances are self-produced by local, national, and international arts companies and independent performers. In the spirit of most Fringes, participation is open and uncensored.”

Put simply, it’s DIY and local theatre at their finest, set in Hollywood.

This year, among the dozens of shows , I’m highlighting one in particular, Valentino: A Play in Verse. The play was written by the uber talented David Wisehart, a novelist and So Cal resident. The play, which took 3 years to write, features such historical figures as Borgia, Machiavelli and da Vinci. With the tagline, “Shakespeare meets The Godfather,” this definitely won’t be like any other play. Tickets are $15. Click here for tickets and show times and dates, because you know, “The play’s the thing.”
