You’re a Great Artist, Because Bravo Says So…

June 9, 2010

There’s a new show premiering on Bravo called “Work of Art,” in which a dozen or so people compete in art-related challenges designed to pit them against each other, all in hopes of a cash prize and career-launching fame. Sound familiar?

The show is structured much like other programs featured on Bravo, such as “Project Runway” and “Top Chef,” where a dozen or so contestants compete in weekly challenges, only to face a panel of so-called experts (judges) that eliminate them one by one, until one person is named “America’s Best _____,” because, you know, Bravo possesses that kind of authority across a broad range of concentrations.

Anyways, I was going to write a seething, uber sarcastic critique on “Work of Art,” until I found a terrific online article written by the uniquely in-depth, smartly funny critic Daniel Fienberg. You can read the full critique here.

Perhaps I’ll have more to say on “Work of Art” as the season progresses. Until then, happy reading!
