“How I Learned to Drive” at SET

June 5, 2010

“How I Learned to Drive” by Paula Vogel
Directed by: Rod Oden

SET  Group opened “How I Learned to Drive” written by Paula Vogel, directed by Rod Oden on Friday June 4th. The play won the Pulitzer Prize for drama in 1998 and remains relevant with its themes of abuse and family dysfunction. Paul Anninos (Uncle Peck) delivers a fantastic performance with a multidimensional character that struggles with his roles as both abused and abuser. Oden’s directorial choice to separate the role of Li’l Bit into three age groups and three actresses works well in achieving his vision and provides a deeper impact in the final scenes. Definitely worth checking out, especially if you haven’t seen a production of this play or any of Vogel’s other pieces.

The play runs approximately an hour and a half without intermission. This production contains adult language, images, and themes.
