“When The Ocean Dries” by Richard Weekley

February 23, 2010

Where will you fish?

When stones become air
Where will you walk?

(You may think this will never happen
You have a mortgage at a Savings and Loan
And a car on time in the drive)

When all the birds have the face of a siren
Where will you do your wash?

(Still it happens to someone everyday)

When the sun gets cold as a raisin
Where will you take snapshots?

When love melts, they say
Even your shoelaces become puffy

What if the lines are down
And there is no one to put you on hold?

When the sky cracks
Where will you hide your memory?
