“The Painting” by Cheryl Hutchison

February 20, 2010

If I could see
People on a painting
It would be
A brilliant mess
Of vivid greens
And brick magenta

Brush stroked hearts
would fall apart
And grow stronger
Despite the pain
as others would form a beat
For the first time

The most confused
Of all souls
Easily would fade out
lost with fake, empty glee
because they pretend
showing colorless efforts
and fight for it

And hands with wrinkles
Proudly would they
brightly shine
for the work of
Other’s lives

And crazy
the little white hope
will be waiting,
ready to sweep across
The canvas.
